Lower Level Groups

  • Balloon Volleyball
    • Equipment needed: Balloon(s), volleyball or badminton net, chairs, rackets or fly swatters, bowl, and multiple slips of paper with individual exercises and/or questions written on them.
    • Objective:To increase strength, balance, endurance, corrdination and socialization while having fun.
    • Description: The group is divided in to equal teams and seated in multiple rows on each side of the volleyball or badminton net. Each person in the group is given a racket or fly swatter in which to hit the balloon. The balloon is then hit back and forth across the net by the members of the group with the rackets or fly swatters. This part of the activity promotes sitting balance. It also promotes control, ROM and coordination of the trunk and upper extremities by stretching and reaching to hit the balloon back across the net. When the balloon hits the floor, the last team to hit it across the net scores. When a team scores, a member of that team will draw a slip from the bowl. Then, every one in the group will then preform that exercise or answers the question and the game continues. This will incorporate strengthening and socialization objectives in to the activity. The activity continues until all the slips have been drawn from the bowl. This activity may also be done with multiple balloons removing a balloon each time one hits the ground until only one balloon remains. The last team to hit the last balloon over the net scores. Playing with multiple balloons will add excitement and fun to the activity. The balloons could also be partially filled with helium and partially filled with air causing them to float in the air longer than just air filled balloons. Mixing partially helium filled and regular air filled balloons will add to the hand eye coordination challenge. Having the members of the group decorate the balloons with markers and ribbons will also add to the fun.
